Epic Mount Gold – If You Think You Can’t Earn It, You’re Right

Your rating: None

Farming gold to pay for an epic flying mount is the largest undertaking that most Warcraft players will engage in. 5000 gold to get the skill, 1000 gold for the upgrade to use it anywhere that matters, plus the cost of the mount itself. And all of that assumes that you already had epic riding and regular flying skills. This can be a majorly daunting task for anyone.

In fact, your first reaction may be to give up before you even start. Let’s say you’ve never had more than 1000g on your character since you started the game, how crazy does it sound for you to accumulate 6000 gold or more? No sense dreaming, hoping for something that can’t happen, right? Wrong!

Here’s the reality: farming gold in Wrath of the Lich King is even faster than it was in The Burning Crusade. When you put your head down and just start earning it piles up very quickly. But that’s not really the point. The important thing is to break it down into smaller pieces. Don’t think about it as a 6000 gold behemoth, towering over you. Think of it in manageable chunks, in amounts that you can earn.

One good way to do this is to go by days. You can either start with the number of days that you are willing to put into earning your epic mount, or you can start with how much time you have to commit per day and work back from there. Either way, you need to figure out how much gold you can earn per hour, because that’s what it all comes back to. There is lots of information available to help you maximize that hourly earn rate, but we’ll just pick a random figure of 100 gold per hour for this discussion.

For the first method, let’s assume that you have as much time per day as you want to do the gold farming (although you don’t want to burn out by going too crazy). You’re only willing to commit 30 days to getting your mount, and you figure you need about 6000 gold. That means you’ll need to earn 200 per day, which comes out to about 2 hours of work each day.
On the other hand, let’s say you can’t play for more than one hour a day, or can’t stand to farm for more than one hour a day. In that case, you know that you will be earning 100 per day, which means it will take you 60 days (two months) to get your mount.

Either way, you need to start focusing on each individual day. Forget about the big number. It should be pretty easy to commit to farming just your one day’s money. Once you get through that first day, just focus on the second day. Before you know it, you’ll realize you’re 10 days in and have 500, 1000, or even 2000 gold sitting in your account.
