Best Gold Farming – Sticking With Deep Quest Chains Yields Major Rewards
It’s a common question: what makes for the best gold farming? There are all manner of answers to this question, and the truth is that none of them is the exact right one. You’ll be best off if you figure out which of the methods for earning gold is the best for you and then stick with it.
One great choice which has been discussed before is doing the story quests. These are the non-repeatable quests that most players use to level, that guide you through the zones, build faction, and reward you with items. These quests are highly profitable due to their experience being converted to cash once you hit the level cap, and because of the item rewards which can be sold to vendors or disenchanted if you have enchanting.
There’s an important detail that’s often overlooked though. Not all story quest chains are created equal. Some of them are extremely shallow, just a couple of quests or in some cases a single orphan quest. These you just do and move on. Some chains, on the other hand, are long and extremely deep. There could be 10, 20, or even 30 or more quests all in a continuous chain. One leading to the next, leading to the next.
There is a common temptation to move on from a quest chain when you get deeper in. This could be because you did the chain while leveling and go high enough to go to another zone, because you got stuck or frustrated with a particular quest, or because you felt that one step in the chain was too long, boring, or hard.
You may not realize it, but you could have really screwed yourself out of a bunch of money. You see, Blizzard rewards players that dig deeply into quest chains. It’s not unusual to find that a quest far down the line from where you started is actually exceedingly easy, but carries an outstanding reward. Deep in a tree you might have a quest that tells you to walk over to another person and talk to them, but it pays more gold than your average "go get 10 of these for me" type quest. Why? Just because you bothered to make it that far. You’re being rewarded for sticking with the same storyline. Sometimes it takes the form of a ‘try this potion for me and see what happens’. You just stand there and watch an animation take place, then you get a reward again.
Likewise, it’s not unusual for the culminating quest in a long chain to pay out very large rewards. This is the time when you usually get blue quality items as well, which in many cases may be a gear upgrade for you.
So the moral of the story is that one of the best gold farming strategies is to stick with a series of quests once you’ve begun, even if you occasionally run into one that is hard or annoying. Chances are that if it’s very long, you’ll find that the rewards awaiting you at the end were well worth the effort.
